Padel in Perth

News

Padel is booming in Perth.

Something's happening in Perth's sporting scene. Walk into any tennis club that's added padel courts and you'll see the same thing: packed sessions, waiting lists, and a mix of people you wouldn't normally see sharing a court together. Padel is here, and it's growing fast.

The numbers don't lie

Globally, padel is the fastest growing sport in the world. Over 25 million people play across more than 90 countries. In Spain, there are more padel courts than tennis courts. In Sweden, it went from virtually unknown to the second most popular sport in under a decade.

Australia is following the same trajectory. The east coast caught on first — Melbourne and Sydney now have dedicated padel facilities popping up regularly. But Western Australia is catching up, and the demand is outpacing supply.

Why Perth is perfect for padel

Think about it. Perth has incredible weather year-round, an outdoor lifestyle culture, and a community that genuinely gets behind sport. We've got the climate to play outdoors almost every day of the year. And Perth people love picking up new things — especially when it's social, active, and doesn't take six months to learn.

Padel ticks every box. It's social by design (you always play doubles), it's easy to pick up, and it gives you a genuine workout without feeling like punishment. A one-hour padel session burns roughly the same calories as a run, but you're too busy having fun to notice.

What's missing

The biggest barrier to padel in Perth right now is simply access. There aren't enough courts. The facilities that do exist are often booked out, and most are retrofitted tennis courts rather than purpose-built padel venues.

That's exactly why we're building Punto Padel. Perth deserves a proper, dedicated padel club — with courts designed for padel from the ground up, coaching programs for every level, and a community space where players can connect off-court too.

What's next

We're not making predictions about padel becoming bigger than tennis or cricket in WA. But we will say this: everyone we've introduced to the sport has come back for more. Every single one.

The wave is coming. Perth just needs more courts to ride it.
