5 tips for your first game.

Punto Padel · 2026

Your first padel session is booked. Nice one. Here's how to make sure you actually enjoy it (and don't embarrass yourself too much).

1. Wear the right shoes

This is the one thing people get wrong. Running shoes are designed to move forward — padel needs you moving sideways, a lot. Grab a pair of court shoes or tennis shoes with good lateral support. Your ankles will thank you.

2. Grip the racquet loosely

New players tend to death-grip the racquet. The tighter you hold it, the less control you have. Think of it like holding a bird — firm enough that it doesn't fly away, loose enough that you don't crush it. A relaxed grip gives you better wrist action and way more feel on the ball.

3. Let the walls do the work

The walls are your friend, not an obstacle. When a ball flies past you and hits the back wall, don't panic. Let it bounce off the glass and come back to you. Some of the best shots in padel come from playing the ball off the wall. It feels weird at first, but once it clicks, it's incredibly satisfying.

4. Stay at the net

In padel, the net is where you win points. Unlike tennis, where baseline rallies can go on forever, padel rewards the pair that controls the net. After your serve or return, try to move forward. You don't need to smash everything — just being in a good position puts pressure on your opponents.

5. Don't try to be a hero

Padel is a doubles game. You don't need to hit winners every shot. Keep the ball in play, work as a pair, and let your opponents make mistakes. The best padel players aren't the ones who hit hardest — they're the ones who make the fewest errors and pick the right moment to attack.

Most importantly, just have fun with it. Nobody's good on day one. But we promise you — by the end of your first session, you'll already be planning your next one.
